Baseball players were scheduled to start competition in the Border League tournament Tuesday, June 23. Pee Wee, Little League and Babe Ruth athletes will be facing their opponents in Haxtun through Saturday, June 27.
Holyoke’s teams include Gold Pee Wee and Babe Ruth, coached by Kyle Bules and Green Pee Wee, Little League and Babe Ruth, coached by Stefan Betley.
Gold Pee Wee team finished their regular season with a 4-8 record, placing them at #6 seed. Green Pee Wee was #3 with a 7-5 record. The Green and Gold teams were scheduled to play each other in the first round of the seven-team tourney Tuesday.
Winner of the Holyoke-Holyoke game will play Friday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. The loser was scheduled to play Wednesday, June 24 at 10 a.m.
Pee Wee fifth-place game is scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. Third-place game is Saturday at noon, and the championship game will be held Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
Other teams participating in the tournament are #1 Haxtun (10-2), #2 Sedgwick (8-4), #4 Chappell (6-6), #5 Fleming (5-7) and #7 Oshkosh (2-10).
Holyoke had only one little league team this year. The Green team has a #3 seed in the five-team tourney, with a record of 5-5. Holyoke’s first game in the bracket is a bye. They will face #2 Haxtun (7-3) in the second round Friday at 1:45 p.m.
The winner of the Holyoke-Haxtun game will move on to the championship game, which is to be played Saturday at 5:45. The Holyoke-Haxtun loser will compete in the third-place game Saturday at noon. The loser of the Chappell and Oshkosh game Tuesday placed fifth.
Other competitors in the Little League tournament are #1 Sedgwick (10-0), #4 Chappell (4-6) and #5 Oshkosh (3-7).
Holyoke Green Babe Ruth Team has #7 seed and a 4-12 record going into the nine-team tournament. They are scheduled to play the #2 Oshkosh team (13-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Holyoke Gold has #3 seed and a record of 10-6. They are scheduled to play #6 Sedgwick (7-9) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The winners of the games will play Friday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals, and the losers will play Thursday at 7 p.m.
The fifth-place game will take place Saturday at 8 a.m. Teams will play for third-place Saturday at 1:45 p.m. The championship game will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Other Babe Ruth teams include #1 Fleming (14-2), #4 Wray (10-6) and #5 Haxtun (10-6). Playing in a pigtail game Tuesday for #8 seed were Chappell (3-13) and Caliche (2-14).
