Senior Buckley Bombers baseball team picked up two wins and two losses last week, giving them a 9-8 record on the season so far.

The match-up with Hershland on Thursday, June 25 was suspended after three innings and will be finished in Sutherland, Neb. when the Bombers travel there on July 8. The score of the game is 5-1, with Chappell having one out in the top of the fourth. The originally scheduled game on July 8 will be played as well.

Chappell vs. Scottsbluff

Traveling to Scottsbluff, Neb. on Tuesday, June 23, things started off well for the Bombers in the first inning with six runs earned. However, according to coach Marcus Kammer, the team fell apart in the fifth, giving up six runs.

The Bombers had five errors in the game, with only four of the nine runs for Scottsbluff being earned.

Batting leaders were Austin Tharp, who hit 2-3 including a triple. Tyler Dale had a triple and two RBIs.

Kendall Kroeger pitched four innings and had four hits, three bases on balls and four earned runs. Logan Krueger was on the mound for two innings and had one strikeout, no earned runs and two hits.

Chappell vs. Sidney

Returning to Chappell, Neb. for a home game on Wednesday, June 24, the Sr. Bombers lost their second straight game to Sidney, Neb. 7-10.

Bombers led the entire game until the wheels came off in the bottom of the sixth, according to Kammer. Though they played good defense, the pitchers struggled to throw strikes throughout the game. Stats show the local team walked 11 Sidney players, only giving up three hits—one a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth after three had just been walked home.

On the mound for five and two-thirds innings was Zach Hansen. He had seven strikeouts, two hits, seven earned runs and nine bases on balls. Krueger pitched one-third of an inning and was credited with the loss. He had three earned runs and two bases on balls.

At bat, Hansen was 2-5, and Krueger and Brandon Price both hit 1-3 for an RBI each.

Chappell vs. Sterling

Redeeming themselves after two tough losses, the Chappell team beat Sterling twice when they hosted the team on Sunday, June 28. The first game was close, with the Bombers eeking out a one-point victory, 11-10. The next time however, the home team was able to close the deal in five innings, 10-2.

Batting leaders for both games were Dale, who hit 3-7 including five RBIs, one triple and a double; Kroeger, who was 5-7 with two RBIs, three doubles and a stolen base; and Krueger who was 2-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Deryk Russell earned the win on the mound in Game One with the save going to Kroeger. Game Two went to Price, who threw a total of 35 pitches in four innings and gave up only one hit.

Up next, Buckley Bombers face Sidney, Neb. yet again when they travel there on Wednesday, July 1 for JR and SR games beginning at 5:30 p.m. They then host Fort Morgan’s A legion for two games on Thursday, July 2 at 5:30 p.m. On Monday, July 6, Alliance, Neb. will host the Bombers for two games starting at 5 p.m.
