The Colorado High School Activities Association recently announced the winners of its inaugural “You Can Play, Colorado!” contest—a program focused on stopping bullying and delivering messages of inclusion and acceptance for all students participating in high school activities such as sports, speech, music and student leadership.
Holyoke High School’s TV productions class, headed by seniors Jacob Vasa and Zach Roll, earned second place for their video submission.
HHS instructor Cindi Beavers said that as a class, the students brainstormed to come up with ideas for the contest.
Their video, “If You Can Play, You Can Play,” features shoes—a creative way to show that every high schooler wears shoes—they might all be different, but everyone wears shoes. “And just like you can wear any shoes you want, you can have any kind of life you want,” said the video.
It was created to show HHS doesn’t discriminate on any level, said Beavers.
