“Anyone who spends time in Holyoke can see that Kristie Pelle loves children, and she is adored by the children of our community,” said Laura Loutensock in nominating first-grade teacher Pelle for this year’s Heart Award.
“I nominate Kristie Pelle for the Heart Award because she makes Holyoke Elementary School a better place to learn and work. Mrs. Pelle demonstrates genuine love for the children of Holyoke,” added Loutensock.
When Pelle student taught in Lynn Schneider’s third-grade classroom eight years ago, she quickly saw that Schneider was a role model in every way. “She’s calm, treats students with such respect, never raises her voice, knows how to watch students who might be struggling and never embarrasses a student,” said Pelle.
Those same characteristics were described by Loutensock in praising Pelle for her role at Holyoke Elementary.
“Mrs. Pelle is the prototype of a primary grade teacher. She is cheerful, gentle, kind and an excellent role model to both students and staff,” said Loutensock in her nomination letter.
On top of her loving demeanor, Pelle sets high academic and behavioral expectations for her students.
