2009 Acre Program Deadline
By Ron Koberstein
Is Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) for you? I can’t say, but I do recommend producers take another look at the ACRE program. Lower market prices can have a significant effect on the payment potential under ACRE. I think producers may have prematurely dismissed the payment possibilities under this program.
We can not tell you if ACRE is the best choice for your farming operation, but we can give you the basic facts so you can make an informed decision. Every farm has different FSA crop bases and yields compared to actual planted acres of crops and yields. Different producers also need different levels of risk protection. Only you can make that decision.
Producers should take this opportunity to learn more about the ACRE program for 2009. The deadline to enroll is Friday, Aug. 14.
In the meantime, producers can call the office to make an appointment and we can run an ACRE example for your farm. Granted, there are many variables, but I want you to have every opportunity to know your options.
All producers, including owners, on a farm are required to sign the CCC-509 ACRE by the Aug. 14 deadline. Even if the farm is cash leased, owners must sign. Please don’t wait until the last minute and then find out you are unable to obtain an absentee landowner’s signature. The same applies with DCP signatures.
