Larry Burt - December 27, 2009
Larry Dean Burt was born Feb. 21, 1943 in Holyoke to Ted and Carlena Bauer Burt. He died in the Veterans’ Hospital in Denver Dec. 27, 2009, after a brief illness.
He attended schools in Holyoke. After serving in the U.S. Navy in Kodiak, Alaska, he went to California and did some acting. He returned to Colorado where he received an A.A. degree in criminal justice from Community College of Denver and majored in telecommunications at Metropolitan State College in Denver. He attended Barber College and received his certificate to become a barber.
Still that was not enough. He then joined the Colorado State Patrol and upon graduation traveled to Southwestern Colorado to assume his duties. After serving in the State Patrol, he returned to Denver, returned to school and received a degree as an inhalation therapist.
As an inhalation therapist, Larry worked in a number of Denver area hospitals—Saint Joseph’s, Saint Anthony’s and Mercy. After several years, Larry left the hospitals and joined KCI Medical of Englewood, as a service consultant. During his 14 years of service at KCI he received numerous awards including the National Spirit Award from KCI for his participation in the Oklahoma City Bombing disaster recovery.
Larry was a man of many talents as evidenced by his acting work in movies and commercials in California and Denver. He loved animals and children. He played Santa for many of his friends’ children. He served as a registered scuba diver on a rescue squad. One of his favorite pastimes was doing needlepoint.
He was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his sister Sharon of Grand Rapids, Minn. and a multitude of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at Olinger-Runyon Stevenson Chapel in Denver and also Jan. 3 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Interment was at the Holyoke Cemetery.
