Helen Lou James was born Nov. 18, 1929 to Fred Henry and Esther Francis (Coyne) Mailander in Haxtun. She died April 2, 2011.
She graduated from Holyoke High School, then known as Phillips County High School, in 1946 and was a graduate of Central Business College in Denver.
She married Marvin R. James at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke on April 29, 1949. To this union four children were born: Patty, Peggy, Bill and Dave. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen’s first and most important jobs were farmer’s wife for 63 years and mother. She was also employed by Ray’s Daylight Doughnuts for four years and Schmidt’s for five years.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. James; parents, Esther and Fred Mailander; sister, Bette Francis Mailander; and grandparents, Henry and Augusta Mailander and John and Mary Coyne.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Patty Norton and husband John of Hanson, Mass. and grandson, John J. Norton; daughter, Peggy Shoemaker of Bloomfield, N.M., granddaughter, Michelle Roundy and husband Jason and great-granddaughters, Sloane Ruby, Judy Djordjevic and husband Tom and Chantelle Coleman and husband Neil; son, Bill James and wife Pam of Fort Collins, grandson, Christopher James and granddaughter, Amanda James; son, David James and wife Tina of Bennett, grandsons, Benjamin James and wife Naomi, Matthew James and Nicholas James and granddaughter, Jessica James; along with all of her extended family and friends.
Viewing and rosary was held April 8 at Baucke Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was held April 9 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke with Father William Jungmann officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Cemetery.
