Leland Lakey - June 06, 2011

Leland Dale Lakey was born in Hubbell, Neb. on Jan. 30, 1935 to James Chester and Della Deaver Lakey. He died suddenly June 6, 2011 at the age of 76.

After marrying Ardell Krueger in Holyoke, they moved to Farmington, N.M. where they started their family. He worked in the oil field industry and was transferred to southeast Louisiana in 1965, lived in Colleyville, Texas from 1981-1988 and had been a resident of Mandeville, La. since 1989. He was employed for several years by Milchem and then Newpark Resources, which allowed him to do worldwide traveling.

He was a kind, caring and gentle man who dearly loved his family. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home, and he was especially proud they had been to all 50 states, as well as other places in the world. He loved woodworking, his daily brisk walk in the neighborhood and taking care of his beautiful lawn and garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and his grandson Craig A. Darce’.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Ardell Krueger Lakey; daughters, Cindy L. Darce’ and husband David, Denise L. Currault and husband Jack and Linda K. Rhea and husband Rick; grandchildren, Christine A. Darce’, Lee Currault and wife Kim, Danny Currault, Robert Rhea and wife Lexi and Jennifer Rhea; great-granddaughter, Caroline Grace Currault; stepgreat-granddaughter, Lexi Houghtaling; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carroll and Irene Bussell; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his beloved poodle, Muffin.

The Funeral Mass was held June 9 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville, La., with interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, La.

In lieu of flowers, masses preferred or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 110 Veterans Boulevard, Suite 160, Metairie, LA 70005, (504-830-2300).
