Mitz Wernsman - June 15, 2011


Mildred “Mitz” Ann Wernsman, age 83, of Haxtun was born Jan. 29, 1928 to Edward and Mary (Hundapohl) Lock in Linn, Mo. She died June 15, 2011 in Haxtun.

She graduated from St. Peter’s High School in rural Fleming. On June 10, 1946, Mitz and Julius Wernsman were married in St. Peter’s Catholic Church. They were blessed with nine boys.

Mitz was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Peter’s.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Wernsman; and grandson, Adam Wernsman.

She is survived by her husband, Julius of Haxtun; sons, David Wernsman of Sacramento, Calif., Charles Wernsman of Fort Collins, Stephen Wernsman of Greeley, Thomas Wernsman of Haxtun, Paul Wernsman of Haxtun, Bernard Wernsman of Jefferson Hills, Pa., Anthony Wernsman of Limon and Edward Wernsman of Littleton; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.

The rosary was held June 20 at Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held June 21 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in rural Fleming, with Father William Jungmann officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery in rural Fleming.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adam Wernsman Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 32, Haxtun, CO 80731.

Gerk Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
