Chuck Edwards - March 07, 2014


Charles Foster Edwards Jr., better known as Chuck, was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Lincoln, Neb., to Charles and Katrina (Engel) Edwards. He died March 7, 2014, at the Haxtun Hospital at the age of 92. Chuck was well-known for his many years of working in the Haxtun grocery store and loved everyone.

Chuck married Ethelyn (Wood) Edwards on June 26, 1945, at the home of her parents in Haxtun, and to this union were born two sons: Chase in 1946 and Warren in 1950. The Edwards family took in several foster children.

Chuck was a lifetime member of the Haxtun Church of the Brethren since 1934 and served as a greeter for many years and had been a deacon. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a World War II veteran.

He joined the American Legion in Haxtun in 1951, and prior to that was a member in Lincoln in 1946. Chuck had also been a member of AARP since 1980 and Woodmen of the World since 1940. He enjoyed dancing and comforting others.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Ethelyn; his parents, Charles and Katrina Edwards; and his siblings.

Chuck is survived by his sons, Chase Edwards of Tucson, Ariz., and Warren and wife June Edwards of Haxtun; grandchildren, Jesse of Commerce City, Damon of Haxtun and Cindy of Henderson; great-grandchildren, Brady, Mason and Dawson; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe, Lillian Marie and Nicole; and his only surviving niece, Sandy Everett, and her family of Lincoln.

Visitation for Chuck was scheduled for Wednesday, March 12 at Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

The funeral service was scheduled for Thursday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Brethren in Haxtun, with Pastor Kenneth Frantz officiating. Interment was set to be at the Haxtun Cemetery.
